Marilyn Norwood Kitchen
November 16, 1948 ~ March 12, 2007

Marilyn was born November 16th, 1948 in Fayetteville, Arkansas and died March 12th, 2007 in Oklahoma City of lung cancer. My mother may best be described as “classy, sassy and full of life.” She never met a stranger, and was very outgoing, funny, generous, loving and easy to talk to. Her favorite movie, which is also appropriate for the person she was, is “It’s a Wonderful Life.” She was an adoring daughter, wife, and mother, a genuine, vivacious and caring friend, and an amazing person who touched others’ lives in many, many ways. She loved shopping, especially for shoes, decorating and dancing.
Perhaps Marilyn's favorite pastime was gardening, especially working with her flowers. Bright, beautiful, fresh flowers adorned her house, inside and out, almost year-round. Her abiding love of flowers, and the new life & growth they symbolize, are the reasons we chose to name our foundation "Flowers For Life." We will also hold an Art for Life art auction each year, around the time of Marilyn's birthday in the fall, with all artwork donated by local artists having flowers as a theme.
My mother also loved her exercise, especially walking. She would walk, outside or on a treadmill, two miles nearly every day. She walked her two-mile trek just two weeks before she passed away! She was very fit, healthy person, which is why the speed with which her cancer overcame her suprised us all so much. Because of Marilyn's love of walking & dedication to exercise, we will hold an annual Marilyn S. Kitchen "Walk Through the Flowers" 10K Walk/Run. It will be held each spring, when the flowers are at their brightest.
Marilyn was loved and appreciated by all who knew her, and she will be deeply missed by her family and a host of true friends.
